Fortunato: Ulf, why are your people wearing eyeliner? Have you been getting fashion advice from the Montaigne again?

Hey, does anybody remember when the history channel showed History?

well, at least it's an hour on the schedule that is not filled with Pawn Stars re-runs.

Seriously I have been here for some time now, besides my father is far more viking than I am (he used to have a share in a viking ship... true story!)
My personal 2nd ed. 7th Sea can be found here: http://theah.sanctum.dk/#home be forewarned might be too simulationist for the weak of heart.

Ok, saw the first episode last night with the wife. Good beginning, lots of fighting (and as a bonus Shieldmaidens!) and plenty of potential for infighting and other cool stuff (even if the 'previews' at the end of the episode were major spoilers for the entire plot). And I could even tolerate Ragnar 'seeing' Odin walking the earth. BUT SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE HELL THE HISTORY CHANNEL IS DOING RUNNING THIS?!?

A quick look at their programing. Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Larry the Cable Guy, Top Gear, Axe Me, Swamp, Guys, Big Rig Bounty Hunters, Ultimate Soldier Challenge...

Well, syfy probably turned it down for lack of giant flying crocs. MTV probably wanted less background music and removal of written plot while relocating it to orange county. Spike would have taken it if it had more trucks in it. TV Land wanted Betty White in the cast. I think maybe cartoon network just got outbid.

I don't know if you all have been keeping up with this, but damn is it making me want to run an all-Vestenmannjavnjar campaign (well I mean ANOTHER all-Vestenmannjavnjar campaign). Good, interesting characters, Female characters who (just like the men) are vital to the show and don't just fade into the background (or act as trophies for the men*).

It's not the best thing on TV (as that title will remain with Breaking Bad until it ends this year) but it's certainly very good.

* I should note that there is a female character who acts as a trophy but there is no way anyone could argue that she isn't vital AND a force to be reconned with...
