Ok so, OGC. What was Good, what was Not So Good and what had a little bit of both.
GOOD!
Oh so so SO many things! The first day’s group. There were two folks who had played with us previously but the bulk (4 people) were complete newbs. Nevertheless, they knocked it out of the park. Instantly got the vibe of the adventures and totally bought into trying crazy new stuff! THEN on the second day, four of them came back to buy a copy of the PHB (the sure sign they’re one of us now!). Jay drove all the way up from VA to play. I learned from Don that our NPC cards seem to be a hit. The legendary reception I always get coming up to the con. The artist of our Friday night game did another drawing for me! All of it, just terrific!
NOT SO GOOD.
I don’t really know what I was thinking (probably something along the lines of “Scott’s getting older, he won’t mind if I run games on his birthday.”) but I scheduled games all Saturday. Fortunately I was able to pawn off the evening game on Patrick so I got home in time for cake and a movie.
Along with that, I got so engrossed in the movie I forgot to make copies of both Ep. 1 XP sheets and the new cards.
To back up a bit, I somehow miscounted the Ep. 1 XP sheets and the amount of sets of new cards, leading to running out on Sat afternoon.
Then I also signed Patrick up for a Sunday game despite his telling me he wouldn’t be available that day. Fortunately we didn’t have very many sign up so we were safe on that front.
So to sum up, all the bad at OGC this year was because of me.
BIT OF BOTH
My favorite gluten-free noodle restaurant went out of business (well they closed this location and the other one is WAY too far for me to travel). And that was a definite bummer. BUT I discovered a new Mexican restaurant (I love Mexican food btw) that not only does gluten free, but they have it labeled on their menus!
The stink in my car. When we got back from the trip, when I turned on the car it smelled horrible inside. I thought it was a dead animal, but John Sussenberger (who helps run the con and is a long time GoSM member) said it might be mildew on the cabin filter. He then proceeded to tell me that changing one is hilariously easy. So I gave it a shot and it turned out we were both right. It was a dead animal and it was hilariously easy to resolve!
