Alex's Character: Georges Hugo Marlac d'Ainsy

Postby Georges Marlac » Fri Oct 03, 2025 9:48 pm

Georges Hugo Marlac d'Ainsy is a flamboyant Montaigne man with nut-brown hair, often dressed in a pale blue doublet of finest brocade and delicate elbow-length black velvet gloves. Of course, pale blue brocade hasn't been in fashion in Montaigne for at least the last two years. He works as an importer of "luxury goods" in Canguine, and can be found most nights in one of the city's many taverns carousing into the wee hours. Just don't get him started on the subject of l'Empereur, who is a brutal despot that has wrested power from where it rightfully belongs: in the hands of the landed gentry.

Backstory

Georges Hugo Marlac d'Ainsy was a messenger in the Montaigne diplomatic service in Avalon. Becoming disillusioned with the rule of l'Empereur after learning of how his family were dispossessed of their holdings, he turned to smuggling documents on behalf of his handlers. Eventually, he was found out, and only narrowly escaped to Avalon with his life.

Since then, he has earned a living working for an importer of "luxury goods" who places a great emphasis on discretion. Georges sails abroad on merchant ships, and marks a few choice items with his sorcerous blood, so that he can bring them to Canguine through portals once he's safely back in Avalon.

More than a few of these expeditions have gone awry due to the interference of Georges' cousin, Remy Philippe Marlac d'Ainsy, a foppish patsy in the Empereur's court who seeks to curry favour by bringing Georges back to Montaigne in irons. Like Georges would ever let that happen!
